The Dominican Republic covers 2/3 of the caribbean island "Hispanola" and borders on Haiti. From northwest to southeast 4 mountain ranges run through the island, the highest one is the "Cordillera Oriental" with over 3.000 metres. Along the east coast of Hispanola streches a beautiful beach of 26 kilometres with white sand as far as you can see and innumerable coconut trees. To ensure a very comfortable and easy arrival to the holiday makers, a typical airport was built in Punta Cana. The comfort and service in the luxurious all-inclusive hotels along the coast of Punta Cana is a cut above the standard in the other parts of the Dominican Republic.

The weather in Dominican Republic remains tropical year round, with slight variations dividing it into basically two seasons, summer and winter. The average annual temperature is around 25° (77°F). The so-called "cool" season is from November to April, with what is considered pleasantly warm weather, relatively low humidity and low precipitation. On the coast, i.e. near the beaches, the temperature hovers fairly constantly around 29°C (84°F) during the day and drops to around a comfortable 20°C (68°F) at night. The more "hot" season is roughly from May to October. Then, the average temperature rises to 31°C (87°F) during the daytime and drops to about 22°C (72°F) at night. However, with the accompanying high humidity that is more common during this season, it usually feels much hotter. It does rain a bit more often during this season, especially from May to August, but usually this turns out to be no more than a 30 minute tropical (sometimes heavy) shower.

Diving is done year around. Visibility can be expected to be between 50 and 100 feet (15 - 30m) and the average water temperature is between 25-29°C (76-82°F). Recommended insulation is a thin lycra suit or a 3mm “shorty” wetsuit for snorkeling and diving. For rainy days and multiple diving a 3mm full wetsuit is necessary.

La Republica Dominicana cubre 2/3 de la isla caribeña La Española y hace frontera con Haití. Desde el nordeste hasta el suroeste 4 cadenas montañosas se erigen, siendo la mas alta la Cordillera Oriental pasando los 3.000 metros. Sobre el lado este de La Española yace una hermosa playa de 26 kilómetros de largo, de arena blanca e innumerables cocoteros. Para proveer una llegada fácil y cómoda a los viajeros, un original aeropuerto fue construido en Punta Cana. El confort y el servicio en los lujosos hoteles todo incluido a lo largo de Punta Cana superan los demás hoteles de Republica Dominicana.

El clima en la Republica Dominicana es tropical todo el año. Hay dos estaciones, verano e invierno en las cuales ocurren pequeñas variaciones climáticas. La temperatura promedio anual es de 25°C (77°F). La llamada estación fría es de Noviembre a Abril, lo que es considerado un clima placenteramente caliente, relativamente baja humedad y bajas precipitaciones. En la costa, por ejemplo cerca de las playas, la temperatura rodea casi constantemente los 29°C (84°F) durante el día y baja a unos confortables 20°C (68°F) en la noche. La temporada más “caliente” es de Mayo a Octubre. Entonces el average de temperatura alcanza 31°C (87°F) durante el día bajando a 22°C (72°F) en la noche. Sin embargo la sensación es de mas calor. Llueve un poco mas en esta estación especialmente de Mayo a Agosto, pero usualmente son solo chubascos de 30 minutos.

El buceo se practica todo el año. Se espera una visibilidad subacuatica de 15 a 30 metros (50 a 100 pies) y la temperatura promedio es de 25 a 29°C (76 a 82°F). Recomendamos para aislamiento el uso de un traje de baño delgado de “Lycra” o traje acuático corto (wetsuit) de 3 mm durante la practica de buceo superficial y buceo subacuatico. Para días lluviosos y múltiples inmersiones un traje acuático de 3 mm completo es necesario.
